Brazilian Portuguese
Brazilian Portuguese has distinctive pronunciation, vocabulary and rhythms. Accents differ across regions, and everyday speech often sounds different from textbook examples. A few expressions can make travel easier and show respect for the people you meet.
Useful first phrases: “Olá” (hello), “Por favor” (please), “Obrigado/Obrigada” (thank you), “Com licença” (excuse me) and “Quanto custa?” (how much does it cost?). Listen carefully, practise slowly and do not worry about making mistakes.
